(Ground Zero) has prepared this response
and workplan addendum to address comments in your letter dated
February -15 1995 and summarize our telephone conversation on
February 27, 1995.
In our conversation I mentioned the aerial photograph showing the
distance between the former USTsandthe westernmost dispenser
island and suggested that one soil boring in this area should be
sufficient to evaluate soil beneath the former product piping. The
exact location will be finalized on the date of drilling after
correlating existing site features and the aerial photograph. Soil
boring SB-24 will be drilled to a maximum depth of approximately 40
feet below ground surface (bgs) . Soil samples collected from the
boring will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes using EPA methods. 8015 and 8020, respectively.
Ground Zero will drill three soil borings (SB-25, SB-26 , and SB-32)
previously proposed in our letter to you (dated January 4 , 1995) at
locations shown an the attached site plan.
No data is available from soil samples collected from beneath the
former USTs during removal of one 7 ,500-gallon and one 12,000-
gallon UST in .December 1978. Therefore, Ground Zero proposes
drilling five soil borings (SB-27 through SB-31) to a maximum depth
of approximately 40 feet bgs each in order to further evaluate soil
conditions in native soil, beneath the former USTs (previous soil
boring TB-7 was located below the south end of the 12,000-gallon
UST) . Angle : borings may be needed because the former UST
excavation has not been backfilled completely. Soil samples will
be collected at five foot intervals in native soil and analyzed for
TPHg and BTEX using EPA methods 8015 and 8020, respectively.
Ground .Zero will also collect soil samples for physical analyses.
The purpose of the physical analyses is to evaluate the physical
parameters of the vadose zone.
