Mar-07-95 10 = 49 Grouind Zero Inc-JMP 415 381 -5416 P _ O3
Ground Zero will drill three offsite soil borings/monitoring wells
(SB-33/MW-9, SB-34/MW-10 , and SB-35/MW-11) previously proposed in
our letter to you (dated January 4, 1995) at locations shown on the
attached site plan.
Ground Zero does not propose drilling a soil boring/monitoring well
in the adjacent warehouse at this time since we have been denied
access to the warehouse by the owner's attorney (letter dated
February 24 , 1995) . In our discussion you indicated that an
additional soil boring/monitoring well east of the warehouse
located on the adjacent property would be acceptable. Therefore in
addition to the previously proposed monitoring wells, Ground Zero
proposes to drill a soil boring/monitoring well (SB-36/MW-12) east
of the warehouse. The well will be constructed of 2-inch diameter
PVC and will be screened from approximately 53 to 73 feet bgs.
Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals for physical
analyses and logging purposes only. The purpose of the physical
analyses is to evaluate the physical and hydrogeologic parameters
of the vadose and groundwater bearing zones. Groundwater samples
collected from the well will be analyzed for TPHg and BTEX using
EPA Methods 8015 and 8020, respectively. Ground Zero understands
that San Joaquin County Public Health Services-Environmental Health
Division (SJCPHS-EHD) will consider groundwater up to that well as
being impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons if hydrocarbons are not
detected in groundwater samples from the well .
Due to the presence of a confirmed leaking UST site (Endich
Brothers) located immediately upgradient of the subject site,
Ground Zero is concerned about performing a pump test onsite and
drawing groundwater impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons toward the
site from the Endich Brothers site. Therefore, Ground Zero
proposes to evaluate hydrogeologic parameters by laboratory
determination of permeability instead of a pumping test. These
data will be used in order to evaluate groundwater remediation
alternatives. Furthermore, Ground Zero proposes to analyze soil
samples collected from the vadose zone for vapor extraction
feasibility study and review vapor extraction feasibility data
obtained from existing case files with similar lithologies where
data from tests performed at the other sites were representative of
site conditions.
Ground Zero will prepare and submit a soil disposal plan for soil
generated during previous work at the site. Ground Zero proposes
onsite disposal of cuttings generated during the proposed phase of
field work if laboratory results indicate non-detectable levels of
petroleum hydrocarbons. Soil generated during the proposed phase
of field work with detectable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons will be included in the soil disposal plan to be
prepared by June 2, 1995.
Ground Zero will submit a copy of our workplan and addendum along
with corresponding costs to Mr. George Lockwood of the UST fund for
pre-approval by March 10 , 1995 in order to expedite reimbursement
of expenses related to the proposed work.
