i <br /> V(M),Background of Claim <br /> Background of Property <br /> In 1936 the property was purchased by Guiseppe and Angela Caffese from Oil <br /> Products Company, Ltd Included in this purchase was the land as well as all <br /> equipment, fixtures,gasoline pumps and all other personal property located at the <br /> premises Oil Products Company conducted a gasoline and service station business at <br /> the southeast corner of Wilson Way and Market Street <br /> Harold A Knowles and his wife, Dena W. Knowles, bought the property from <br /> Gusieppe Caffese and Angela Caffese on February 24, 1947. The Knowles operated a <br /> service station and retail store business. <br /> Harold A Knowles and his wife Dena W Knowles,sold the property to Pepsi-Cola <br /> Bottling Company of Stockton,Inc on August 5, 1977 The Knowles sold the property <br /> with the tanks and pumps intact to Pepsi-Cola Pepsi-Cola allegedly excavated, through <br /> a general contractor, removed the tanks and paved over the area approximately in the <br /> . end of December 1978 or the first of January 1979.The permit for removal of the <br /> underground storage tanks indicated that the Knowles requested a permit for removal <br /> of the tank(s) This was not the case. The permit was issued approximately one year <br /> after the Knowles sold the property to Pepsi-Cola San Joaquin County issued the <br /> permit in the Knowles' store name by mistake <br /> Pepsi-Cola thereafter sold the property to Union Safe Deposit Bank on December 13, <br /> 1985 who in turn sold the property to Roek Brothers Construction on December <br /> 24,1985 <br /> Roek brothers as well as the local agency have demanded that all previous property <br /> owners undertake the responsibility to investigate and remediate the contamination at <br /> this property <br /> CORRECTIVE ACTION TO DATE <br /> The Roeks have undertaken to date the entire costs associated with the corrective <br /> action To fully define the extent of contamination onsite, a preliminary site <br /> assessment and a soil and groundwater investigation have been conducted by the <br />
