3.2 Corrective Action <br /> This phase of the work will be divided into four tasks in order to remediate the <br /> contaminated soil and groundwater. Three of these four tasks are as follows <br /> Task 3.2 1. Removal of existing stockpiled soil and contained water from previous <br /> site related activities. <br /> Task 3.2 2 Backfilling existing excavation <br /> Task 3.2.3. Remediation of contaminated soils at the northwest corner of the <br /> property <br /> The fourth task, which is evaluation of remedial alternatives to mitigate the <br /> contamination in the groundwater and prevent the further migration of the plume off- <br /> site will be discussed as a part of the Corrective Action in Section 3.3. <br /> Task 3.2.1. Removal of existing onsite soil and water <br /> In order to remediate the site, the former tank area was excavated in 1989 and the soils <br /> were stockpiled onsite There also exists currently onsite segregated drill cuttings from <br /> site work previously conducted and contained in 55 gallon drums. The total volume of <br /> soils stockpiled is unclear because of conflicting reports by previous consultants <br /> Hence, we will determine the volume of stockpiled soil We will analyze the existing <br /> stockpile for TPH and BTEX Analytical testing conducted in 1989 on these soils <br /> indicate non-detect to trace levels of TPH and BTEX. KJC suggested to use the <br /> stockpiled soil as backfill. Using this stockpile for backfilling purposes does not`seem <br /> practical because the soil has been exposed to the air for almost 5 years and would <br /> most certainly be "caked" hard Because of low volumes of contaminated soils present, <br /> the most cost effective method of remediation is disposal to a local Class III landfill <br /> In addition to these soils, there are nineteen 55 gallon drums filled with water from $ite <br /> related activities such as well development and monitoring well sampling Water <br /> contained in these drums will be sampled and tested for BTEX and Total Volatile <br /> Hydrocarbons {TVH} Based upon these test results, appropriate disposition of this <br /> water will be decided The alternatives are discharging into the City of Stockton's <br /> sanitary sewer if the BTEX and TVH Ievels are below the discharge limits If this <br /> method of disposal is not possible, then a waste hauler will be retained to haul off the <br /> water as designated waste <br /> Task 3.2.2. Backfilling existing excavation <br /> 8 1 <br />
