n
The former tank excavation area had been backfilled and graded to level
Investigations conducted later revealed contaminated soil that had to be excavated
This former tank area is now excavated to remove petroleum contaminated soil and the
soils are stockpiled onsite. The depth of this excavation is 4 feet and covers an area of
350 square feet.
Task 3.2.3. Remediation of Soils from Northwest Corner
j
Previous investigations conducted at the northwest corner of the site indicate soil
contamination extends between a depth of 5 to 25 feet over an area of approximately
450 square feet Based upon this, the total volume of the soil to be remediated is
approximately 420 cubic yards Data suggest that there is no off-site migration of soil
contamination. Soil samples will be taken from soil boring TB5 and analyzed for TPH
as gasoline, BTEX and organic lead Soil remediation techniques such as in-situ soil
venting, in-situ vapor extraction, bioremediation, or onsite incineration are considered
However because of low volumes of soils here, these m-site techniques do not appear
to be cost effective Onsite incineration is eliminated because it is very expensive.
Hence, offsite disposal of this soil to an appropriate facility, such as Forward Landfill
in Stockton is the most cost effective method of remediation The excavation will be
backfilled with engineering fill, and paved to grade with asphalt
Table 3-2 shows the cost for Tasks 3 2.1 , 3.2 2, and 3.2.3 as described above
9
s
