30 September 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0646
using AGE's Geoprobe soil probing unit.
Probings will be advanced near the former dispenser location. If a probe boring encounters intensely
impacted soil, subsequent probing locations will be stepped out to define the plume. The proposed
probing locations are illustrated on Figure 2.
If ground water is encountered, grab water samples will be collected from selected probings.
Samples will be collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly and placed in 40-m1 VOA
vials containing 0.5-m1 of hydrochloric acid as a preservative.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All Geoprobe sampling tools and sample liners used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed
with clean water after washing with a solution of Alconox. Geoprobe rods, which come into contact
with sampled soil, will be cleaned between, borings.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and grab water samples will be transported, under chain-of-custody, in a chilled
container,to a state-certified laboratory for analysis. Selected samples will be analyzed for TPH-g,
volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTEX), and fuel oxygenates in
accordance with EPA methods 8015m/5030,8020/602 and 8260,respectively.The laboratory report,
testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)reports and sample chain-of-
custody documentation will be presented in a report with the findings and recommendations.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. SOIL PROBE BORING INSTALLATION AND SAMPLING
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of probe borings:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any r .
2. Advance four soil probe borings at the site to depths of approximat y 30 feet belo ace
grade (bsg)using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit equipped w' -inch diameter
rods. Probings will be advanced near the former dispenser location. If hydrocarbons are
encountered based on field observations, probings will be advanced below the impacted soil
interval to the extent practicable. The proposed probe boring locations are depicted on Figure
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
