 -3:
San Joaquin County EHD
September 5, 2008
building. The USTs were removed in 1989 and were not replaced. Fuel is no longer dispensed at
the Site. Soil samples collected from beneath Tank #1, Tank #2, and the product line indicated a
petroleum hydrocarbon release. A detailed site description and work history are provided in
Ground Zero's Site Conceptual Model dated February 29, 2008 and Ground Zero's Feasibility
Study—Soil and Groundwater Remediation Report dated July 2, 2008.
The purpose of the pilot test is to determine the size and specifications of an off-gas treatment
system necessary to address contaminant concentrations at the Site as well as to determine the
radius of influence (ROI)of a SVE/IAS system. The ROI will be used to determine the number and
locations of extraction wells needed to effectively cover the contaminated area.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
Ground Zero proposes the installation of vapor extraction, observation, and air sparging wells
necessary to conduct an in-situ groundwater and off-gas treatment pilot test. The pilot test will
consist of soil vapor extraction from the vadose zone and the injection of air into groundwater to
enhance the volatilization and recovery of volatile organic compounds. If the results of the pilot
test indicate SVE/IAS is a viable remediation alternative for this Site, the results will be used to
design a full scale remediation system.
Permitting
Upon approval of this workplan, well installation permits will be obtained from EHD. The EHD
will be given advanced notice of all work to be performed at the Site. The area in which drilling
activities will be conducted will be cleared of underground utilities by Underground Services Alert
prior to any work being performed at the Site. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control
District will not require a permit for the pilot test.
Well Installation
Ground Zero proposes the installation of two vapor extraction wells (VEWs), one air sparging
well (ASW), and three observation wells (OWs) near the locations shown in Figure 3. Soil
samples will be collected in three boring locations to characterize residual soil contamination
near the pilot test location.
GAGROUMMMARRYS AUTO\Reports\Workplans\wp sve pilot test.doc
i
- - - sti
