ga
c
J. H. KLEINFELDEK & ASSOCIATES
Initially, we recommend that all monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-7) be
sampled and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH); benzene,
toluene, xylene (BTX); and general minerals. General minerals results
f will be particularly useful in design of the treatment system through
identification of ions that may pose technical difficulties in the
m
on. Additionally, analytical results from
operating phase of remedial acti
monitoring well MW-2 will help characterize background water quality.
f,
ie
This background data will be utilized in comparison with treated water to
verify treatment system performance (see Section 3.9)•
f,n
Chemical analyses from ground water samples collected on August 13, 1985;
ya November. 15, 1985; and September 8, 1986 have provided sufficient data to
i support the following recommendations:
t 1. Monitoring well MW-5 should be sampled and analyzed on a
quarterly basis for TP11 and BTX.
2. All other monitoring wells (MW-1 to MW-4, MW-6, and MW-7) should
be sampled and analyzed on a monthly basis for TPH and BTX,
Although minor concentrations of toluene have been detected in monitoring
3 well MW-5 samples, it appears that these concentrations are unrelated to
1A the hydrocarbon plume identified to the east. This is supported by a
s southeast ground water gradient and non-detectable values for BTX from
1a
ground water samples .collected from monitoring wells MW-3 and MW-6, (see
Figure 3.2.1). The monitoring of all monitoring wells (excluding MW-5) on
BTX will enable JHK&A to systematically
a monthly basis for TPH and
document the hydrocarbon plume configuration and monitor treatment system
effectiveness. The sampling and analyses of monitoring wells MW-3 and
MW-6 may eventually be rescheduled to quarterly monitoring if ground water
wells are outside the zone of,influence
modeling suggests that these
i imposed by the remedial actions.
a
Ground water elevation measurements will be conducted during each sampling
T - - i ' -- - - ------ ----- - ------ — ---
round, These data are used to identify
fluctuations-in flow- remedial -- - -
' on of ground water elevation maps.
action influence, and preparati
7
33-83-887
