P SIEHD has also recently reviewed the
Canonie lab report dated January 26, 1987. P S/EHD has the following comments for
your consideration.
The 1987 Canonie report included the analytical results from samples collected on
January 14, 1987 from the excavation associated with a failed tank precision test and a
piping replacement. Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was evidence up to 1,500
ppm Total Extractable Hydrocarbon, 30 ppm Oth r Volatile Hydrocarbon, 2 ppm Toluene,
and 26 ppm Xylene. As you indicated, during he July 13, 1993 consultation, the soil
samples were collected at between 10 and 12 fee t below ground surface. Contamination
which was documented poses a threat to gro indwater. According to San Joaquin
County Flood Control, seasonal high (1986) de p h to groundwater is 15 feet. Additional
soil and groundwater investigation will be nece ary, in order to determine the extent of
soil and/or groundwater contamination. A miniry um of three monitoring wells should be
installed so the site gradient can be determined Existence of a downgradient well will
be required to determine if groundwater has ben impacted.
The 1993 Aegis report included the analytical resifts, .008 ppm Xylene, from soil samples
collected at 15 feet on June 23, 1993. The investigation was part of an environmental
assessment, prior to a potential property sale transaction. The results of the assessment
should be included in the site investigation.
Enclosed is a Notice of Reimbursement (NOR) and information regarding the placement
of your site in the Local Oversight Program (LOP). PHSIEHD will provide lead regulatory
oversight of the investigation and remediation of your site.
nA Division of San Joaquin Country Heal h rare SeMCes
