Yosemite Avenue Ave.
Manteca, CA
h
Project No. 959.2
July 12, 2001
I
1.0 INTRODUCTION
A Payless Shoe Store is currently located at 1160 W. Yosemite Avenue in Manteca,
California (see Figure 1). A portion of a former Shell gasoline station was previously
located at the site. The purpose of this investigation is to determine if gasoline has been
released from underground%fuel storage systems at the site,
. 1
2.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
GTI proposes to install four GeoProbe boreholes, collect soil/groundwater grab samples and
analyze these samples for petroleum hydrocarbons. A health and safety plan is included as
Appendix A.
2.1 GeoProbe Survey
Four GeoProbe boreholes will be advanced in the locations indicated in Figure 2.
g I
Soil Sample Collection
The boreholes will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by V&W Drilling of
Rio Vista, CA (C57# 720904). The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic
hammer to a selected depth. ' Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and
advanced further to fill the core barrel. The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained
in the coring tool. Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is
removed. The cylinder is then cut and. the selected interval is capped with Teflon foil and
end caps and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. The remainder is used for
geologic logging. A boring log providing sediment description.using the USCS and other }
field observations will be maintained by a professional geologist .working under the-
supervision
he-supervision of a registered geologist.
i
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals down to groundwater. One soil sample
from each borehole will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis. This sample will be
f
