Purdom&Bettencourt Page 2
Soil&Groundwater Investigation
Project No. 959.2
1.. July 12,2001
16w selected from either the capillary fringe or from a shallower depth if contamination is
detectable in field observations.
Groundwater Grab Sampling
Upon reaching the capillary fringe in each borehole, a hydropunch-type sampling tool will
` be advanced into the groundwater and a groundwater sample will be collected from each
borehole. The samples are collected from a mini stainless steel bailer and gently transferred
into VOA vials (a ball check valve and tubing will be used if the bailer does not collect
sufficient water to sample). The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped, and checked for
headspace bubbles. The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment to the
.laboratory. Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and
sampling equipment. The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution and
water rinse.
Groundwater is expected to be approximately 20 feet below ground surface (bgs). If
sufficient groundwater is not present at 20 feet bgs, the drill rods will be advanced an
additional five feet to 25 feet bgs (this will increase project costs).
2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses
One soil sample per borehole will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar (State
Certified Laboratory #1400) for the following analysis:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX)by EPA method 8020
• Methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) by EPA method 602
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G)by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
The detection limits for these compounds are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be
completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
L• DetectionLimits:
03 (Ag/Kg) 3.0 50 i,uuu
La 2.3 Groundwater Sample Analyses
One groundwater sample from each borehole will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of
Hilmar (State Certified Laboratory #1400) the following analysis:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 602
• Oxygenates - MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME & TBA by EPA method 8260
L. • Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas)by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
The detection limits for these compounds are listed below.
