The proposed slant boring southeast of the former USTs and the
proposed boring near the elbow of the north pipeline of the former USTs were not
done. San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS-EHD) recommends that these areas be addressed in the next investigation.
PHS/EHD staff has noted very strong oxygenate and petroleum hydrocarbon odor in
the majority of the soil and ground water samples collected from the soil borings on
April 15, 1999. The field screening instrument (Photoionizarion Detector) also
indicated hydrocarbons in the soil samples collected at the vadose, capillary fringe, and
saturated zones. Odor was noted in the soil samples collected as deep as 35 feet below
surface grade (bsg), the approximate vertical limit of the investigation. The vertical and
horizontal extent of the contamination has not been defined. Submit a report of the
April 15, 1999 work to PHS/EHD by May 30, 1999. Submit a work plan that will
define the vertical and horizontal extent of the contamination to PHS/EHD by July 1,
1999.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
i
Jeffrey Wong, REHS ✓ Margare agorio, RENS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region- Mark List
c: Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. -Tim Cuellar
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
