The
proposed work has not commenced to date.
On December 4, 1998, the three USTs and underground piping suspected of the
unauthorized petroleum release discussed in the above-mentioned work plan were
removed. Strong petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in the UST excavation and
in the trench south of the excavation. Gray soil discoloration was noted on the
southwest corner and eastern sidewall of the excavation. Analytical results of the soil
samples collected from the UST excavation indicated the presence of Total-Petroleum
Hydrocarbon as Gasoline (TPH-g), aromatic Hydrocarbons as Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX), and Oxygenate compounds as Methyl-tert Butyl
Ether (MTBE), tert-Amyl Methyl Ether (TAME) and tert-Butanol Alcohol (TBA).
The results of some of the soil samples with the highest concentrations are as follows:
TK-3 East at 12.5 feet below surface grade(bsg): 1700 parts per million (ppm) TPH-
g, 6.5, 130, 51, and 250 ppm BTEX respectively, 16 ppm MTBE, and 4.7 ppm
TAME.
TK-2 East at 12 feet bsg: 2,600 ppm TPH-g, 3.8, 110, 56, and 340 ppm BTEX
respectively, 7.5 ppm MTBE.
TK-1 East at 13 feet bsg: 750 ppm TPH-g, 0.33, 10, 12, 82 ppm BTEX respectively,
0.15 ppm MTBE, and 1.5 ppm TBA.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
