' 05 September 2003 <br /> S AGE-NC Project No 97-0333 <br /> ' Page 2 of 10 <br /> ' 2 1 GROUND WATER PUMP AND TREAT OPERATION <br /> During the first quarter 2003, extraction well EW-1 was adjusted at the well-head to continuously <br /> ' extract ground water at a flow rate of approximately 4 GPM, extracted ground water was routed <br /> through a ground water treatment system consisting of granular activated carbon (GAC) and <br /> Sunsolve® Following treatment,water was discharged underground via 2-inch diameter PVC piping <br /> to the City of Manteca sewer system, discharge piping 1s connected to a sewer manhole located <br /> approximately 25 feet south of the pump-and-treat system <br /> Based on effluent flow meter readings (Table 5), approximately 183,191 gallons of treated water <br /> were extracted and discharged to the City of Manteca sewer system between 12 December 2002 and <br /> 27 March 2003 under City of Manteca Public Works Department(CMPWD)Industrial Wastewater <br /> ' Discharge Permit No 02-1 <br /> ' 2 2 GROUND WATER PUMP AND TREAT SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br /> Ground water pump-and-treat influent,intermediate and effluent water samples were collected from <br /> 10 valved ports located upstream (influent), after the second treatment media vessel (GAC-2) and <br /> downstream(effluent)of the treatment unit The grab water samples were collected utilizing 40-m1 <br /> EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and <br /> 1-liter amber bottles Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the vials <br /> after filling and capping Ground water sample containers were labeled with a sample designation, ` <br /> ' date, time, and sampler's initials <br /> ' 2 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER PUMP-AND-TREAT SAMPLES <br /> Influent, intermediate and effluent grab water samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, <br /> ' placed in a chilled container and transported to a California Department of Health Services(DHS)- <br /> certified laboratory for analysis for <br /> ' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d, <br /> respectively)by EPA Methods 35501503018015 Modified, <br /> • Benzene,toluene,ethyl benzene and xylene(BTEX)and methyl-tertiarybutyl ether(MTBE) <br /> by EPA Method 8020, and <br /> ' • Tetrachloroethene (PCE), tnchloroethene (TCE), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethylene <br /> di-bromide (EDB), tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl tert butyl ether <br /> (ETBE), tert amyl methyl ether(TAME) and MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified <br /> ' Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc <br /> 1 j <br />
