GJeologicafT'echnics Inc.
Groundwater Monitoring Cost Pre-approval Page 2
Project No.: 640.2
July 24,2001
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G). The maximum concentrations of
these constituents detected for the three events were: 0.3 ug/1 benzene, 2 ug/1 toluene, 35
ug/1 ethyl benzene, 160 ug/l xylene, 520 ug/1 TPH-G. In our "Groundwater Monitoring
Spring Quarter 2000 report dated August 18, 2000, GTI proposed closure for the site
based on the low BTEX & TPH-G concentrations and a lack of gasoline oxygenates in
groundwater. No response was received from the SJC PHS/EHD regarding the closure
request.
4. A well receptor survey was completed for the site and a "Well Receptor Survey" report
dated September 10, 2000, was submitted to the applicable regulatory agencies.
5. GTI submitted a June 14, 2001 plan proposing closure of the site due to negligible
p P p g
amounts of gasoline remaining in the soil and groundwater. The work plan called for the
abandonment of two monitoring wells (MW-2 and MW-3) at the site. The plan further
proposed retaining one monitoring well (MW-1) in order to support the above ground
storage tank investigation running concurrently at the site.
6. In his June 25, 2001 directive Mr. Jeffrey Wong of the PHS/EHD disapproved the
proposed site closure and our June 14, 20001 well destruction work plan. He further
directed that Ted Peters Trucking perfo ' three additional consecutive quarters of
groundwater sampling.
The work proposed is the completion of three additional quarterly monitoring events in
accordance with the San Joaquin County directive.
Proposed Direction of Project
1. Sample three monitoring wells(MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3) for three consecutive quarters.
2. Prepare groundwater-monitoring reports for three sampling events.
3. Provide project supervision and consultation services to Ted Peters Trucking as necessary
during this corrective action project.
Proposed Bidding of Project
To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc: used the same rates from
Del-Tech Geotechnical Support as we have in the past which have been approved by the Fund.
The proposed work will follow the same protocols included in the original well installation
work plan.
The attached spreadsheet gives estimated costs for performing the work approved by SJC
PHS/EHD. In an attempt to make this Pre-Approval flow smoothly, GTI has used the same unit
costs for this work that has previously been approved by the USTCFP for other projects.
Geological Technics Inc. accepts field support services and lab invoices and adds a 15%
overhead fee. GTI then pays these charges.
