Each sample
was then placed into a new, never before used, 500
milliliter or 1 liter glass jar. This process was repeated
until the sample jar was filled with the sample material .
Solid, semi-solid, sludge, and soil samples were collected
with a disposable plastic trowel that was new and had never
been used before. The plastic trowels were removed from the
plastic wrap and were used to scoop the material into the
500 milliliter glass sample jar. The process was repeated
until the sample jar was filled with the soil.
A label is placed on the sample jar. The sample is
photographed and evidence tape is placed over jar lid. Each
sample jar was placed inside a small plastic bag and put
into a cooled ice chest. The ice chest is then placed
inside the DTSC truck.
Sampling activities concluded at approximately 1200 hours.
VI. POST SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
Mr. Gillum transported the samples to the DTSC Regional
Office in Sacramento the afternoon of January 24 , 1997 and
placed the samples in the locked evidence room.
On January 27, 1997 , Ms. Lancaster removed the samples from
the evidence room, checked the integrity of each sample, and
completed the SAR which indicated the analyses to be
conducted on each sample and included a chain or custody
record, (Attachment D) . The samples were placed in bubble-
wrap bags and put into an ice chest with blue ice. The SAR
was placed inside the ice chest, and the ice chest was
secured with strapping and evidence tape. Ms. Lancaster
delivered the samples to the Hazardous Materials Laboratory
(HML) in Berkeley, California at approximately 1430 hours.
Ms. Terana Hannon, laboratory assistant at HML signed the
SAR on January 27 , 1997 . The HML Sample Receipt,
(Attachment I) shows that the samples were received in
acceptable condition with custody seals present.
VII .
