Violation #404 - Failed to inspect hazardous waste storage areas at least weekly.
This violation has been corrected. Violation corrected on 10-31-19.
The company policy is to inspect the hazardous waste storage area daily. We have
counseled the Store Manager, Michael Mills, and Senior Assistant Manager, Thomas
Champion regarding the importance accurately reviewing/completing the hazardous
waste Inspection checklist. Environmental Compliance Manager, Darryl Dinson, and
District Loss Prevention Manager, Luis Banuelos visited the store to conduct follow up
training with store management. We have also created an audit to be completed by the
District Loss Prevention Manager every time they complete a store visit to ensure
compliance of our hazardous waste program.
Violation #605 - Failed to completely label containers or portable tanks of
hazardous waste.
This violation has been corrected. Violation corrected on 10-31-19.
The container labels were corrected to include the generator name and address, the
physical state, words Hazardous Waste, accumulation start date, composition, and
hazardous properties. The store manager was also counseled and retrained on the
minimum requirements for hazardous waste labeling. I have included pictures of
corrected labels affixed to the bins. The "To Be Determined" bins have been removed
and associates will make an immediate waste determination utilizing the scan gun
system (WERCS) or contacting the corporate office for assistance. (v#605 AF Label,
v#605 CA Label, V#605 CB Label, v#605 OX Label, v#605 TX Label, v#605 UW Label).
In order to ensure clearer and more accurate labeling, going forward we will be
implementing a new labeling process involving our hazardous waste transporter. Each
time the transporter picks up our hazardous waste the hazardous waste hauler (US
Ecology) will generate a new label that includes the title "Hazardous Waste", the
generator name and address, accumulation start date (to be completed by the store),
composition, physical state, and the hazardous properties. I have included an exemplar
of the label for your review. (v#605 Label Exemplar)
