The chamber also promotes passive venting which provides abundant
oxygen which enhances nitrification. Carbon filters are attached to the vents to
minimize odors. Within the sandy bottom of the trench, anaerobic processes,
supplemented by wood cellules, will enhance denitrification. Since the soils are sandy,
we are recommending 4 inches of loose compost soil be placed on the bottom of three
trenches. The fourth trench will not corttaocompost or other wood additives for
comparison purposes during analyti ing- a wood additive should be evenly
mixed within the sand at a ratio of about 17 perce t by volume. Together, the compost
and wood additive will provide an am carbon rce for denitrification. The compost
will tend to slow the percolation rate of the trench bottom, promoting a moist
environment.
A duplex pum ng system is require by the EHD for commercial septic systems. We
recommend n Orenco P3005 (30 g m) pump package with time dosing panel. Please
refer to the awing for addition etails and the pump curve attachment for the pump
selection infor tion.
Monitoring
The EHD requires an initial monitoring period on all commercial engineered septic
systems for nitrate reduction. This system will require twelve (12) monitoring visits
which may occur over one year. Several monitoring parameters will be required:
— Note the water meter reading.
— Inspect the overall septic system condition.
-- Measure fluid level in all four (4), 2-inch diameter monitoring ports
— Draw fluid in three (3) monitoring ports for trenches 1 to 3 to make one (1)
composite and test for nitrate if available.
— Draw fluid in one monitori i our (4) and test for nitrate if
available.
— Extract effluent fro the two (2) lysimeter p and test for nitrate and
ammonia if avail le.
— Extract effluent from septic tank mpartment and test for total nitrogen
and alkalinity.
Prepare update letter every six (6) visits followed by a final report with
recommendations after twelve (12) visits to be submitted to the EHD. A separate letter
with an estimate for monitoring costs and lysimeter installation costs will be provided by
'-'44
902 Industrial Way■Lodi,CA 95240-209.367.3701 -Fax 209.369.4228 02007 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc.
