Aug 22 OG 07: 30p Gr 6j- and/or H. B. Dietz 209- 3-i288
i p. 1
•
DiETZ IRRIGATION
Engineers and Contractors
SERVING AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRY
CA Lie.#638284
August 16, 2006-
San
006San Joaquin County Environmental Division
Attn: Mike Huggins
304 E. Weber Avenue, 3`d Floor
Stockton, CA 45202
Subject: Third Quarter 2006 Inspection of MicroSeptec Unit Installed at Carmelo
Business Park,Tracy, California
i
Dear Mr. Huggins:
The MicroSeptec Unit Model SM-1200 installed at 7500 Carmelo Avenue, Tracy,
I California was sampled on July 13, 2006. The sample results, which are attached,
showed a reading 136 rng/L of nitrates. The system was clearly not functioning as
designed.
A detailed inspection and trouble shooting of the system was then initiated upon review
of the sample results. The following corrective action was taken.
• The obsolete SM control system was replaced with the updated ES configuration
1 control system. This involved complete replacement of the control panel, changes
to the wiring to adapt to the new control panel and complete function testing of
pumps, control floats, pressure switches and all wiring terminations. F
The cause of the problem was biornedia (plastic rings)which had moved from the
2nd and 3nd chambers to the I"and 4`h chambers during a failure of the effluent
pump several years ago. All of the media had not been moved back to the proper
chambers and provided a surface area for solids buildup out of the zone of
treatment. Nitrification was occurring in these chambers. The media had actually
plugged the inlet to the system, which was restricted flow from the list stations.
All biomedia was removed from the 0 and 40 chambers, the chambers pumped,
washed and the system returned to operation with all aeration and control systems
functioning properly. This work was started on August 5t' and completed August
12, 2006.
i
f
k
i
