WASTEWATER CHARACTERIZATION <br /> Influent samples are collected from the WWTP monthly and analyzed for pH,biochemical <br /> oxygen demand(BOD), and total suspended solids(TSS). The results of influent sample <br /> collected in 2007 are presented in Table 3. The average influent pH concentration during 2007 . <br /> was 7.4, with a range of 6.8 to 7.7. Influent BOD observed in 2007 ranged from 106 to <br /> 660 mg/L, with an average concentration of 240 mg/L. In 2007, TSS ranged from 70 to <br /> �i <br /> 1,180 mg/L,with an average concentration of 287 mg/L. <br /> Effluent samples are collected from the WWTP weekly and analyzed for pH, turbidity, BOD, <br /> TSS, total dissolved solids (TDS), coliform bacteria, electrical conductivity(EC), and settleable <br /> solids (SS). The average effluent BOD concentration reported in 2007 was 12.0 mg/L and <br /> average effluent TSS was 7 mg/L. Coliform bacteria were typically not detected in effluent <br /> E` <br /> samples. Two coliform detections in December 2007 (2,400 and 50 1\4PN/100 mL)were <br /> ! attributed to a failure of the ozone disinfection system,which has since been repaired. The <br /> results of effluent samples collected in 2007 are summarized in Table 3. <br /> WASTEWATER TREATMENT <br /> Wastewater generated at the RV Park is treated with a Bio-Pure wastewater treatment system <br /> manufactured by ACT. The Bio-Pure®process is an intermittent cycle, extended aeration system <br /> G (ICEAS), consisting of extended aeration, clarification,multimedia filtration, and ozone <br /> disinfection. The WWTP is rated by the manufacturer to treat 50,000 gallons per day (gpd). <br /> Wastewater flows into a lift station with an operational capacity of 17,770 gallons. Wastewater <br /> held in the lift station is aerated. Wastewater is screened prior to being pumped into the aeration <br /> chamber,where the wastewater is treated by forced air aeration. The aeration chamber has an <br /> operational capacity of 21,610 gallons. After a set time,treated wastewater is transferred to a <br /> clarifier with a 10,820-gallon operational capacity. Floating waste is collected in the clarifier and <br /> returned to the aeration chamber. Clarifier supernatant flows into an ozone contact chamber with <br /> an operational capacity of 4,030 gallons. Ozone is injected into the contact basin for a minimum <br /> of 40 minutes. Sludge collected in the clarifier and ozone contact chamber are returned to the <br /> aeration chamber. Once the wastewater has been disinfected it is pumped through multimedia <br /> filters prior to being stored in a golf course pond located immediately east of the treatment plant. <br /> A schematic of the RV Park WWTP is provided in Figure 3. <br /> The vendor for the WWTP reports that the system contains approximately 26,000 gallons of <br /> { reserve and flow equalization capacity, equivalent to approximately 50% of the rated daily flow. <br /> In addition to the reserve and equalization capacity in the WWTP,treated wastewater is stored in <br /> - a golf course pond prior to dispersal,which is equivalent to approximately one day of storage at <br /> peak flows. <br /> The Bio-Pure treatment system is warranted by the manufacturer to produce effluent with <br /> biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) less than 10 mg/L, total suspended solids (TSS) less than <br /> t 10 mg/L, and total coliform bacteria less than 2 colonies per 100 mL.
