SEACOR <br /> • <br /> STANDARD SAFETY DRILLING SAFETY SSP 30 <br /> PROCEDURES <br /> • Cover all unattended boreholes or otherwise protect to prevent drill rig-personnel, <br /> site visitors or animals from stepping or falling into the hole. All open boreholes <br /> should be covered, protected or backfilled_adequately according to local or state <br /> regulations on completion of the drilling project. <br /> • Do not "horse around" within the vicinity of the drill rig and tool and supply storage <br /> area even when the drill rig is shut down. <br /> • When using a ladder on a drill rig, face the ladder and grasp either the side rails or <br /> the rungs with both hands while ascending or descending. Do not attempt to use one <br /> or both hands to carry a tool while on a ladder. Use a hoist line and a tool "bucket" <br /> or a safety hook to raise or lower hand tools. <br /> An elevated derrick platform should be used with the following precautions: <br /> • When working on a derrick platform, use a safety belt and a lifeline. The safety <br /> belt should be at least 4 inches (100 mm) wide and should fit snugly, but <br /> comfortably. The lifeline, when attached to the derrick, should be less than 6 feet <br /> (2 m) long. The safety belt and lifeline should be strong enough to withstand the <br /> dynamic force of a_2.50_pound (115 kg) weight (contained within the belt) faIIing 6 = <br /> feet (2 m). <br /> • When climbing to a derrick platform that is higher than 20 feet (6 m), use a safety _ <br /> climbing device. <br /> • When a rig worker is on a derrick platform, fasten the lifeline to the derrick Just <br /> above the derrick platform and to a structural member that is not attached to the <br /> platform or to other lines or cables supporting the platform. <br /> • When a rig worker first arrives at a derrick platform, inspect the platform for <br /> broken members, Ioose connections and loose tools or other loose materials. <br /> • Securely attach tools to the platform with safety lines. Do not attach a tool to a <br /> line attached to your wrist or any other part of your body <br /> • When you are working on a derrick platform, do not guide drill rods or pipe into <br /> racks or other supports by taking hold of a moving hoist line or a traveling block. <br /> • Do not leave loose tools and similar items on the derrick platform or on structural • <br /> members of the derrick <br /> corp-h&slssp-30 30-9 REVISED 11/02/92 <br />
