However, expired flares are hazardous waste before a West Marine employee takes the waste from the customer. They are expired and cannot be resold. They are not defective and would not be returned to the manufacturer. Please clarify West Marine's policy for accepting expired flares, gasoline, aerosols, and corrosive solids from the public ( or customers). I was provided your information from our facilities manager and wanted to follow up and make sure all violations have been resolved. I have attached the filled out Hazardous Materials Information sheet that is now posted in our Stockton location. There was another statement that I wanted to make sure I understood regard excepting returns of Hazardous products. Currently, our West Marine return policy allows the acceptance of returns of some Hazardous products. Our return policy does require proof of purchase before the return can be accepted, so we do validate the product was purchased from West Marine before accepting it. We do not allow no validated purchases to be returned or disposed of at our retail locations. I wasn't clear if we needed to do something different for returns of hazardous products in San Joaquin County. Please let me know so we are in compliance.
