Hazardous Waste Management Section
• Solids or dust (pills) should be swept and placed into a sealable plastic bag and put in the
Propofol Hazardous Waste Container.
H. Hazardous Waste Training
All employees that may generate or handle hazardous wastes must be trained on proper waste handling
and emergency procedures, relevant to their responsibilities. Training has been conducted for all
hospital personnel and training documentation is maintained in the Safety Binder.
IV. Universal Waste
Universal waste is a classification of hazardous waste that has been granted less stringent waste
management and storage requirements than other types of hazardous waste in order to promote more
effective recycling, treatment and disposal. California recognizes several classifications of universal
wastes, which include, but is not limited to batteries, fluorescent lamps, mercury -containing items, and
aerosol containers. Based on the quantities of hazardous waste that will be generated on a monthly
basis, Banfield Pet Hospitals will be Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Universal Waste Generators,
which are exempt from the universal waste regulations in California.
Universal waste (fluorescent lamps, batteries, etc.) generated at the hospital is managed by Banfield
facility maintenance staff and should not be stored at the hospital or managed by hospital staff.
K 15
Banfield
'Pl:i` HOSPITAL
