Waste <br /> Universal waste is a classification of hazardous waste that has been granted less stringent waste <br /> management and storage requirements than other types of hazardous waste in order to promote more <br /> effective recycling, treatment and disposal . California recognizes several classifications of universal <br /> wastes, which include, but is not limited to batteries, fluorescent lamps, mercury-containing items, and <br /> aerosol containers .
