May 13, 2019
Sent via email to Elianna Florido at eflorido@sjgov.org
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Dept
1868 E. Hazelton Ave
Stockton, CA 95205
Re: Family Dollar Store #32181
2043 Jackson Drive
Escalon, CA 95320
Dear Ms. Florido,
In response to the inspection conducted on March 27, 2019, and the amended report of
April 12, 2019, for Family Dollar Store #32181 (12181) in Escalon, California, please see the
outline below, and the exhibits which follow, referencing existing procedures, documentation
and/or actions taken:
1. A Family Dollar EH&S Specialist conducted a follow-up audit at this store on April 30,
2019. Store management was coached on the proper identification and management of
hazardous waste including the use of available resources and who to call for support if
unsure. As part of our internal audit, all totes containing waste were assessed for proper
categorization, processing and labeling. Tote contents and labels were corrected as
needed. This included processing empty or partially empty containers that had held
cleaning solutions (both retail and store-use) and other household chemicals. It was
emphasized that empty chemical containers NEVER go in the trash, but must be
processed as waste and, in the case of a spill clean-up, all clean-up materials must also be
processed as waste.
2. In addition to the coaching, two Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), the Store Manager,
and a merchandiser have been retrained on the hazardous waste program (EXHIBIT A).
Hazardous waste is to be processed by managers only, but the merchandiser handles
product in receiving and merchandising.
Please see the separate attachment of the new training material.
FAMILY DOLLAR STORES, INC., POST OFFICE BOX 1017, CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA 28201-1017 (704) 847-6961
