additional sampling plan and installation of an adequate array of properly constructed monitoring wells in
order to obtain definitive-level data for use in groundwater modeling and human health risk assessments.
QA/QC samples will be collected and analyzed in accordance with USEPA guidance [USEPA, 2000],
DTSC has determined that collection of background samples will not be included in the scope of this PEA
as background metals data from a similar nearby school site will be used. The data set for the background
samples will be provided by the DTSC.
The resulting analytical data will be subject to data evaluation to assure that DQOs are met and that the
data are suitable for use in the human health and ecological screening evaluations. The data set will be
evaluated for precision, accuracy, representativeness, comparability, completeness, and sensitivity of
detection limits used during chemical analysis and the collection of field measurements. Site soil metal
concentrations will be compared against background levels using an appropriate statistical test, such as a
rank sum test,to assess whether any metals are present at greater than background levels.
1.5 HUMAN HEALTH AND ECOLOGICAL SCREENING EVALUATION
The human health and ecological screening evaluation will be performed in accordance with the protocols
detailed in the DTSC PEA Guidance Manual. In addition, project-specific guidance on the performance
of the screening evaluations will be requested from the DTSC Project Manager and DTSC staff
toxicologist. Analytical results for total lead will be input into the DTSC LeadSpread 7 spreadsheet for
use in screening health risks from lead.
Page 5 PAPEA Lockeford\Work Plan\Lockeford WP.doc
