This PEA work plan addresses the first three items listed above, but does not address the final item since
LUSD intends to remove the building if it acquires the Site. Removal of the building would require
proper handling to assure that hazardous materials do not remain on the Site.
3.8 OBSERVATIONS FROM SITE RECONNAISANCE
A site reconnaissance was conducted by URS and DTSC personnel and the DTSC project team in
December 2002. URS personnel noted that the apparent area of the former UST is covered with a
portland-cement concrete slab and the surface drainage for the southern parcel is to a drop inlet located
near the eastern edge of the parcel. Based on the observed conditions at the Site, the following issues will
be incorporated into the field investigation associated with the PEA:
• The area where the former UST was located is covered with a Portland-cement concrete slab.
Two soil gas and soil matrix sampling locations will be in this area— one near either end of the
slab.
• Surface drainage for the southern parcel is to a drop inlet located near the eastern edge of the
parcel. One soil gas and soil matrix sampling location will be near the drop inlet, as it is located
in one of the lowest areas of the parcel.
Page 12 PAPEA Lockeford\Work Plan\Lockeford WP.doc
