07 October 2013
AGE Project No. 13-2914
Page 3of5
prior to purging and sample collection. Soil vapors purged through the pump were also
field-screened using a PID.
SAMPLE ANALYSIS
Soil and soil-vapor samples were transported under chain-of-custody to Cal Tech
Environmental Laboratories (CTEL), a California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-
Certified laboratory. Soil samples collected from each boring and soil-vapor samples were
analyzed for:
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in accordance with EPA Method 826013.
BORING ABANDONMENT
Following sample collection, each boring was permanently sealed to prevent vertical
migration of potential contaminants. Soil borings were abandoned by backfilling with
portland cement from the total depth to surface grade.
FINDINGS
Hydrocarbon odors were not observed in the soil samples collected. Utilizing the OVM,
organic vapors were detected in soil samples and soil-vapor collected from 131 through B4
at very low concentrations ranging between 0.2 parts per million volume (ppmv) and
0.6 ppmv.
A total of eight soil samples collected from borings 131 through B4 and two soil-vapor
samples collected from B1 and 132 were analyzed for VOCs.
Tetrachloroethene (PCE) was detected in soil samples collected from one foot bsg in
borings 131 through 134 at concentrations ranging between 0.010 milligrams per kilogram
(mg/kg) in 134 and 0.14 mg/kg in 131 ; additionally, PCE was detected in the soil sample
collected at four feet bsg in boring 132 at a concentration of 0.013 mg/kg. PCE was not
detected above the laboratory reporting limit in soil samples collected at five feet bsg in
borings B1 and 133 and at three feet bsg in boring 134.
PCE was detected at a concentration of 1.0 microgram per liter (pg/1) in the soil-vapor
sample collected from B1; PCE was not detected above the laboratory reporting limit in the
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
