ARCADIS
According to the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Survey website, the
surficial soil at the Site consists of Delhi-Urban Land Complex, with 0 to 2 percent
slopes.
It should be noted that ARCADIS has not drilled soil borings at the Site, and the local
and regional geologic conditions described herein are based solely on available
literature regarding the area.
2.3.3 Site Hydrogeologic Setting
The Site is located within the San Joaquin River Hydrologic Region, which includes
9.7 million acres and all of San Joaquin County as well as surrounding counties. The
San Joaquin River Hydrologic Basin is divided into nine sub-basins. The Site is located
within the Eastern San Joaquin Sub-basin consisting of the following water-bearing
formations: Alluvium and Modesto Riverbank Formation, Flood Basin Deposits,
Laguna Formation, and Mehrten Formation(California's Groundwater, Bulletin 118;
California Department of Water Resources 2003). The Hydrologic Basin is heavily
dependent on groundwater with 30 percent of agriculture and urban water use from
groundwater.
The City of Manteca water service is provided 100 percent by groundwater. An out-of-
service domestic water well is also located at the Site. Depth to first groundwater in the
site vicinity is reportedly at less than 20 feet below ground surface (bgs; California
Well Log Database website. No surface water is located on the Site. The nearest
surface water to the Site appears to be an unnamed creek located south of the Site.
2.3.4 Site Climatological Setting
The climate in the site vicinity is characterized by warm, dry summers and damp
winters. The daily (24-hour) average temperature in the area is 73.8 degrees Fahrenheit
(°F) in April. The average annual rainfall is 12.0 inches; most of the rainfall occurs
from November through March (www.worldclimate.com).
2.4 Current and Historical Land Uses
The Site has historically been used for residential purposes. However, the former
owner operated a small business from his residence for repackaging chemicals for
resale. Mr. Larry Gordon was identified as the site owner from approximately 1959 to
2003 (Nichols and Clean Harbors 2008). In 2003, ownership of the Site was transferred
to the survivors of the Gordon Family Trust (Nichols and Clean Harbors 2008). The
Site consists of several vacant, dilapidated structures some, of which, have been
partially destroyed by fires of natural and unnatural causes and vandalism. Currently,
dilapidated structures including a former residence are present at the Site. Empty metal
storage containers, which appear to have been used for former storage of chemicals,
Page 10 wp-PEA-Gordon-Juil0-RV009808.doc:
