ARCADES Mr. McKinley Lewis, Jr.
April 20, 2011
PEA Summary
Forty-eight shallow soil borings were advanced at the Site in June 2010. Results of
the sampling activities were provided to the DTSC in September 2010. Summary
Tables 1 through 9 are included as Attachment 1. The Site Plan showing the sample
locations and potential areas of concern identified in June 2010 is depicted on Figure
1 (Attachment 2).
Soil samples were analyzed for multiple parameters, including:
• total metals using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) Method
6010B
• chromium speciation using EPA Method 7196A, mercury using EPA Method
7474A, and soluble lead using EPA Method 6010B
• organochlorine pesticides (OCPs)using EPA Method 8081 A
• dioxins using EPA Method 8290
• semivolatile organic compounds(SVOCs)using EPA Method 8270C
• polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) using EPA Method 8082
• pH using EPA Method 9045D
• total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) using EPA Method 8015B
• chlorinated herbicides using EPA Method 8151
• organophosphate pesticides using EPA Method 8141, and
• volatile organic compounds(VOCs) using EPA Method 8260B
A total of 25 soil samples were measured for pH. The measurements ranged from a
minimum of 4.6 to a maximum of 6.8 standard units. Generally, the soil at the Site
falls within the acidic pH range. The lowest pH levels were at the location of former
fires on a sample from the ash in the silo and at the former foundation south of the
shed (Figure 1, Attachment 2).
Page:
Final PEA Work Plan Addendum-AprI I-RV009808 doc 3/11
