Christine will work with us to begin a"gentle"
relocation right after the September it end of nesting season. No permits are required. We will
reschedule work to commence some time after that, and give you a week notice prior to
commencing work. Please let me know if you need an earlier notice than that.
We will make sure to observe the 16o foot distance while doing the work.
Christine,do you think we need you or someone else to be an observer during the work?
Let us know if you have questions.
Regards,
.Anne
Anne Conner
PG&E Sr Remediation Project Manager
3401 Cron,Canyon Road
San Ramon, CA 94583
415-6381(925)415-6381(41 S)2 71-66 75
From: Gaber, Christine
Sent: Monday, August 10, 2009 4:14 PM
To: Robert Ellgas; Conner, Anne P (CGT)
Cc: Tyrone Evans
Subject: RE: MSE contact
Hi Robert
Thanks for the great map.
1)When I went out there last week I identified western burrowing owl sign (pellets)at entrances to ground
squirrel burrows in two of the mounds. This species is protected as a California Species of Special
Concern and by California Fish and Game Codes that cover raptors and nesting birds.
2)I'm recommending following the CDFG/California Burrowing Owl Consortium mitigation guidelines.
These guidelines allow for passive relocation of owls during the non-breeding season (September 1
through January 31). Construction activities and othe disturbance should observe a buffer of 250 from
occupied burrows during the breeding season and 160 feet during the non-breeding season. We don't
need any permits to do relocation, and I have a contractor ready to do the work in early September
(probably could do that first week if that works for us).
3) I'm anticipating that the contractor will use a combination of one-way door installation to evict any owls in
the burrows for the two western soil mounds that are larger and have harder soils, and
burrow scoping/digging up with hand tools for the other two mounds that have looser soils.
