FW: MSE contact ( Page 6 of 8
process would take a few days. Once we have determined that there are no owls in the burrows or that
they have left the burrows, we would want the crew to come in and do their work and collapse the mounds
so nothing re-enters them.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Christine
Christine O. The large-scale figure we produced for the Pond 3 investigation report, which
showed the three closed ponds and all adjacent wells and soil borings, was from an MSN aerial that didn't
have sufficient resolution to clearly show the soil mounds containing the burrows. The drafter found
another aerial with excellent resolution that clearly shows the four soil mounds (although it contains a
horizontal black line that could be removed if the figure needed to be used for any agency submittals). I've
attached this in case Christine might still be able to use it.
Christine,
If you were able to reach me I would have asked you a few questions so that MSE can attempt to schedule
our final phase of fieldwork for the well decommissioning project. Once you respond to my questions
below I'll be able to send an e-mail to the SJCEHD inspector and the CVRWQCB regulator regarding the
status of the project.
1) Could you please confirm that it's the Western burrowing owl that might be using the burrows, and that
it's currently listed in California as a Species of Special Concern?
2) 1 understand that the end of the nesting (breeding?)season is August 31. Will you be able to begin
relocation immediately thereafter? If not, is that because you need to obtain a permit from CDFG or any
other agency approvals? If so, do you know how long that might take?
3) Once you can begin relocation, how long do you anticipate it will take? Will the soil mounds need to be
removed or otherwise altered?
Thank you for your responses,
9/8/2009
