Samples were then labeled with the sample location , date and time and
were placed on ice and transported to PETALs laboratory for analysis . The samples were
analyzed for :
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel in accordance with
Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA) Method 8015M .
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs ) including benzene , toluene , ethylbenzene ,
and total xylenes ( BTEX) , and fuel additives methyl tertiary- butyl ether ( MTBE ) ,
tertiary- butyl alcohol (TBA) , di- isopropyl ether ( DIPE ) , ethyl tertiary- butyl ether
( ETBE ) , tertiary-amyl methyl ether ( TAME ) , 1 , 2 -dibromoethane ( EDB ) , and
1 , 24chloroethane ( 1 , 2 - DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 82608 .
• Total Lead in accordance with EPA Method 6020A .
FINDINGS
No petroleum hydrocarbons or VOCs were reported in the excavation UST soil sample or
stockpile sample .
Low concentrations of the metal lead ( Pb ) were reported in the excavation UST soil
sample , and moderate concentrations ( 824 milligrams per kilogram ) of Pb were reported
in the stockpile soil sample . The excavated soil included bricks and other non - native soil
backfill surrounding the UST .
The laboratory report and chain of custody are included as Attachment D .
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The UST was removed under permit from the SJCEHD . No significant petroleum
contamination was noted during the excavation , nor detected by laboratory analysis in
soil samples collected from the site .
The UST excavation is within the City of Stockton Municipal Utilities District and a series
of stormwater drain inlets surround the excavation ; which is a possible source of metals
( Pb ) with the soils near the off-site UST location soil removal .
Based on the location of excavation under a sidewalk , soil backfill material removed was
replaced and then the excavation was finally compacted and the upper section backfilled
with recycled engineered fill material .
AGE has determined that no additional investigation is necessary and recommend §, the
issuance of a site closure ; in concurrence with the SJCEHD .
I<l Ji :.
