identification and handling of hazardous materials and hazardous waste in the workplace. Training occurs as
required by law or more frequently. Required training is documented.
There are also monthly inspections of personal protective equipment, fire system, and eyewash station, and daily
visual inspections of work areas to ensure safe practices are being followed.
Training is conducted upon initial assignment, reassignment to a new work area, and whenever a new type of hazard
is introduced into the work area. Emergency communication systems, fire protection equipment and spill control
equipment are tested and maintained on a regular basis to ensure proper operation.
The Administrative Manager documents that all appropriate and required training has been completed. After
attending the training session, each Employee is to sign off or be scanned to verify that he/she attended and
understands the training.
D) Response Critique and Plan Review Modification Process:
The contingency plan must be reviewed, and amended, whenever the following situations apply: applicable
regulations are revised; the plan fails in an emergency; the facility changes in its design, construction, operation, or
other circumstances in a way that materially increases the potential for fires, explosions, or releases; the list of
emergency coordinators changes; or the list of emergency equipment changes. If a change to the plan is needed,
warehouse employees should email both 3E, Costco Environmental Services/Hazardous Materials and Ancillary
Business.
E) Prevention:
Costco maintains hazardous chemicals primarily in prepackaged consumer products merchandised for retail sale.
Products merchandised are stocked in such a manner as to preclude accidental damage, and to prevent spills or
accidental mixtures. In order to prevent a release from occurring, employees are trained on proper hazardous
materials handling and storage procedures. Hazardous materials are kept in their original containers, and
merchandise is appropriately tied off or shrink-wrapped. If a secondary container is used, the container must be
labeled with either an extra copy of the original manufacturer label or a generic label which lists the products name
and hazard. Department personnel visually inspect products and work areas on a daily basis to ensure safe practices
are being followed. There are also monthly inspections of personal protective equipment, fire system, and eyewash
stations.
This Costco facility operates three 20,000 gallon double -walled fiberglass underground storage tanks for gasoline
and one 1,500 gallon double -walled fiberglass underground storage tank for Ultrazol, The USTs are monitored by an
electronic Veeder Root 350R leak detection monitoring system, which is managed by Veeder Root FMS. The
system alarm and monitoring panel is typically located in the "data hut' near the gas station. In order to reduce or
prevent potential exposure to chemical hazards, Costco utilizes engineering measures and administrative measures.
Costco provides safe work policies and procedures, safety training, proper PPE, and distribute SDS, product safe
work practice memos, and merchandising guidelines.
Various in-house inspections are conducted and documented (e.g. daily floor walk checklist).
F) Emergency
Equipment:
This is a list of al emergency response equipment at the facility. All equipment is tested and maintained as
necessary to assure its proper operation in time of emergency.
Fire Extinguishing Systems
• Automatic Fire Sprinkler system- Provides rapid response to fires as the sprinkler system runs
throughout the warehouse.
➢ Capabilities: response to small fires.
• Portable ABC -rated fire extinguishers- to provide rapid response to fires, wall mounted, and hand-held
fire extinguishers are located throughout the warehouse and gas station
➢ Capabilities: response to small fires.
;w
Communication Devices
,9 Aid 31 2019
January 2019 1 E AL 8
,,, ,?pARTMCKI
.t.
