MC'CORMICK & BAXTER M117,0_A
. TIM' BPAY SFO
3 . WORKMANSHIP
3 . 1 GENERAL: The final depth of each well will be determined by
the Engineer based on field conditions encountered during drilling,
data on existing wells , and other data . The borehole and casing
sizes and the approximate depth of the monitoring wells are given in
Table 1. Portable mud mixing container and cutting separation tanks
shall be used during drilling, developing, and testing so that all
water, cuttings, mud, and other waste materials can be collected and
disposed of in the specified manner . A grout injection pump shall
be used to pump grout into seal areas . The Subcontractor shall be
aware of hole depth at all times and shall inform Engineer ' s
personnel of the same upon request . The Subcontractor shall also be
responsible for maintaining a vertical hole alignment not to vary
from the vertical more than two-thirds the inside diameter of the
well per 100 feet of hole.
3 . 2 LOGGING AND RECORDS: The Subcontractor shall furnish the
Contractor with a written daily log of the work . Information
supplied shall include, as a minimum, accurate depths , thicknesses,
and nature of the strata penetrated. Drilling rates, water levels,
and other information may also be requested by the Contractor .
Progress on all phases of the work shall also be reported. This
shall include, but not be limited to, the drilling operations , the
placement of the casing, screen, gravel pack , and annular seal , and
development and testing records . These daily records should
indicate all quantities of unit price pay items and should be signed
daily by the Subcontractor and a representative of the Engineer .
3 . 3 STRATIGRAPHIC LOGS :
3 . 3. 1 Drilling Log : As the drilling proceeds, the driller shall
keep a log of the boreholes which carefully and accurately describes
the materials penetrated. The log shall show all changes in strata
and such information as drilling rate, depth at which water is first
encountered, and other pertinent phenomena observed during drilling
of the borehole. A record shall be kept of any variation in the
addition and amount of approved clays or chemical products or water
required during drilling . The depth at which such changes are
required shall be shown in the daily reports .
3 . 3. 2 Sample Collection: At each interval to be screened, the
Subcontractor shall collect a large, representative sample of the
formation material . The Subcontractor shall label and store each
sample in a suitable quart-sized, waterproof container . The sample
containers shall be stored in a manner to prevent breakage or loss .
All containers shall be furnished by the Subcontractor .
3. 4 WELL DRILLING:
3 . 4. 1 The boreholes shall be drilled using mud rotary techniques .
M11701 .D0 MAY 29, 1987
MONITORING WELL DRILLING 2 02602
AND DEVELOPMENT
