Foodservice/Food Packaging
119
Copies of hazardous waste disposal records for used oil from the forklifts were not found on site.
Pactiv Response: See Response to 114 above. For all future forklift maintenance activity by
Watts, Pactiv will retain the used oil and drained used oil filters on-site for disposal and keep
disposal records for 3 years.
Copies of hazardous waste disposal records for used undrained oil filters for the forklifts were
not found on-site.
Pactiv Response: Pactiv will ensure all oil filters are properly drained before disposal. Used
oil filters are properly drained to assure that no free-flowing oil is present and the filters, if
not reused, are managed through the ink & oily solids waste stream (which is managed as a
California hazardous waste).
301
Ink stains/dried accumulated ink was observed on the ground throughout the facility. In the
outside area, oily absorbent/oily staining was observed in several areas. One of the machines
near the hazardous waste storage area had an oil leak. Immediately clean the wastes and fix
the leak.
Pactiv Response: Pactiv has determined that ink stains and dried ink are not hazardous from
process knowledge and information it has from the SDS on these water-based inks. The oily
absorbent/staining in the outside area has been cleaned to the extent possible and absorbent
transferred to the ink/oily solids drums for disposal. The oil leak has been fixed and oil waste
from the leak has been absorbed and transferred to the ink/oily solids drums for disposal.
403
Near Press 6: One white 5 gallon plastic bucket containing oily sludge was observed without a
lid.
Pactiv Response: The 5 gallon container has been removed and the waste was placed inside
the ink/oily solids waste stream for disposal.
406
Near Press 6: One blue 55 gallon steel drum was observed without an empty label.
Pactiv Response: This has been corrected and appropriate personnel have been retrained on
empty container management.
In the metal shop: One white 55 gallon plastic drum and one blue 55 gallon steel drum were
observed without an empty label.
