There were no exceedences of established concentration limits during the second
quarter monitoring event.
Results from the second quarter monitoring event show several detections of Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs) in MW-5. MW-5 has been declared an impacted well, and is monitored
through a corrective action program. As previously noted, the County believes that VOCs at
MW-5 are the result of impact by landfill gas (LFG). As a corrective measure, the LFG
collection and control system has been operating at maximum collection rate. The County
believes that the LFG system is preventing landfill gas (and the entrained VOCs) from leaving
the landfill. This belief is based on the significant reduction of the concentration of combustible
gas at the LFG perimeter migration probes, with most probes now being free of LFG.
We will continue to operate the LFG system to collect the maximum amount of LFG possible
without threatening to start a subsurface fire.
As requested by your Board, the County will submit a detailed report addressing the
effectiveness of the LFG system in mitigating groundwater impacts by October 1, 2002.
If you have any questions, please call me at (209) 468-3066.
Sincerely/,
W.
