r
CGPY
The Scotts Company
and Subsidiaries
October 15, 2001
Mr. Mike Huggins, R.D.I., R.E.H. .
Supervising Environmental Health Specialist
Public Health Services
San Joaquin County
304 E. Weber Ave.
Stockton, California 95202
*Attachment to Our:
Subject: Amendment to Report of Compost Site Information,
Facility Permit No. 39-AA-0026
Dear Mr. Huggins:
We would like to store the unground green waste at our facility for an average of
7 days between grinding periods. During those times of the year that the green waste
does not accumulate to a significant amount during any given 7 day period, then Scotts
will report this shortage of green waste to the LEA, and will grind in accordance with the
LEA's direction.
The temperatures of the incoming green waste have become an issue/violation,
and we feel that by decreasing our storage process from. 15 days to Mays, the
temperatures can be monitored and managed more closely in accordance to the demands
of the LEA. Although the temperatures can be above the maximum range before the
green waste has even been delivered, we will do our best to minimize the temperatures by
aerating with our loaders, and minimizing the pile heights. Temperatures will be taken at
random throughout the storage pile every morning and areas that are above the
temperature will be flipped and aerated. We will also keen a logbook as to when the tub-
grinder is in operation and when it is off site.
I hope that with these new procedures in place that we can increase your comfort
level in the manner on how we handle our composting operation.
Sincerely,
Aaron Leach
Plant Manager ';
The O.M.Scott&Sons Company•Hyponex Corporation• P.D.Box 479•Linden,CA 95236
