Broken fluorescent tube on a rug or carpet: <br />• Carefully scoop up glass fragments and power using stiff paper or cardboard and place debris in <br />a zip lock bag <br />• Use sticky tape to pick up any remaining small glass fragments or powder <br />o If vacuuming is needed after other clean up measures have been taken, vacuum the area <br />where the bulb was broken, remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister) and <br />put the bag or debris into a sealed plastic bag <br />• Place the zip lock bag in the used bulb universal waste container <br />• Wash your hands with soap and water <br />INSPECTIONS <br />Store management is responsible for inspecting the hazardous waste station. Inspections shall take place <br />at least weekly. The following items shall be checked during each inspection: <br />• Waste Inventory Log —ensure all waste has been inventoried on the log <br />• Waste containers — ensure that no hazardous materials are leaking inside or outside of the <br />container <br />• Inspect waste labels to ensure that the label has been fully and accurately filled out with the <br />waste contents and date of initial waste introduction <br />• Ensure the Non -Hazardous Materials Only notice is affixed to the door to the trash compactor <br />• Ensure that the waste station is neat, orderly, and free from any access obstructions <br />• Date the inspection on the log for recordkeeping purposes — Save inspection logs for (1) year <br />Contact the Safety Manager in Risk Management with any questions regarding these inspections. <br />RECORDKEEPING <br />We must always submit a copy of the waste manifest to the California Department of Toxic Substances <br />Control (DTSC). Copies must be sent to the DTSC within 30 days of the shipment date. Legible copies <br />shall be sent to the following location: <br />DTSC Generator Manifests <br />Depart <br />ment of Toxic Substances Control <br />P.O. Box 400 <br />Sacramento, CA 95812-0400 <br />A signed copy of the manifest must be kept for at least three years from the date the waste was <br />accepted by the waste transporter (shipment date). <br />
