Sacramento, CA 95812"VWV <br />For additional questions contact the Safety Manager in Risk Management. <br />WASTE HANDLING AND CLEANUP <br />Hazardous Waste Spill Clean-up <br />• Remain a safe distance from the spill until the waste and its hazards have been identified <br />• Isolate the area with aisle blockers or wet floor signs <br />• Gather clean-up materials and PPE from the hazardous waste station <br />• With PPE on, stop the spill by picking up the damaged merchandise, placing inside of a zip lock <br />bag, and discarding into the proper hazardous waste container <br />• For liquid spills use the absorbent material, working from the outside to the middle, to cover the <br />entire spill area <br />• Sweep absorbed material with broom and dust pan. place in a sealed zip lock bag, and dispose of <br />in the proper hazardous waste container <br />o Label zip lock bag with the contents of the spilled material <br />• Wash the affected area with soap and water <br />• Complete the new waste inventory log <br />Universal Waste Cleanup <br />Prior to Clean up <br />• If possible, leave the area for 15 minutes <br />• Collect materials to clean up the broken bulb <br />o Still paper or cardboard <br />o Sticky tape ke.g., duct tape) <br />o Damp paper towel or wet wipes <br />o Zip lock bag <br />Broken fluorescent tube on a hard surface: <br />• . Carefully scoop up glass fragments and power using stiff paper or cardboard and place debris in <br />a zip lock bag <br />• Use sticky tape to pick up any remaining small glass fragments or powder <br />• Wipe the area clean with a damp paper towel or wet wipe, placing the used materials in the zip <br />lock bag <br />o Do not use a vacuum or broom when cleaning broken fluorescent bulbs <br />� Place the zip lock bag in the used bulb universal waste container <br />• Wash hands with soap and water <br />
