02 August 2018
AGE-NC Project No. 18-4471
acceptable to the EHD, and will be reviewed and signed by a California Professional
Geologist.
3.0. FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of
a California Professional Geologist. Procedures for advancing soil borings, collection and
analysis of soil-vapor and groundwater samples, boring abandonment, equipment
decontamination and sample handling are presented below.
3.1. DRILLING ACTIVITIES
The following procedures will be performed prior to any digging/drilling activities:
• Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety
and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and
Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, October 1985.
• Notify the EHD a minimum of 72 hours prior to commencement of any work,
following the date of issue for drilling and/or well permits.
• All drilling locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground
Service Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes.
3.1.1. Soil-Vapor Boring Advancement and Sampling
Soil borings for collection of soil-vapor samples will be advanced at the site to maximum
depths of 20 feet bsg using a van-mounted Geoprobe® 5400 equipped with 1.25-inch
probing rods. The probe rig will advance soil borings using a hydraulic hammer to drive
sampling tools to specified depths.
Upon reaching a total depth, each soil-vapor boring will be converted into vapor sampling
points using a three-inch long vapor implant attached to '/4-inch diameter Teflon tubing.
The implant and tubing will be lowered to the desired depth of each boring and filter pack
material consisting of #2/12 sand will be placed from the bottom of the borehole to
approximately one-foot above the vapor implant. Following filter placement,
approximately one foot of dry granular bentonite will be placed above the filter pack. The
remainder of the void space between the tubing and the open borehole will be filled with
bentonite and hydrated at the surface.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
