MANAGING HAZARDOUS WASTE
OVERVIEW
Once an item is determined to be hazardous waste, it needs to be properly contained and managed
until the next Waste Management pick-up. In the next few sections, we will discuss the steps to take
when handling hazardous waste.
BAGGING HAZARDOUS WASTE
All items that are considered hazardous waste must be bagged using zip-loc style sealing storage
bags.
Only one item must be placed in a bag. If there is more than one of the same item, each item must
still be bagged separately*.
*The only exception is outdated, unopened HBC. Identical SKUs may be placed within the same bag.
Any large universal waste items that cannot fit inside the universal waste tote should be placed in the
universal hazardous waste collection box. A collection label is to be adhered directly to the outside of
the universal hazardous waste collection box.
EXAMPLES:
CORRECT INCORRECT
Each item in its own bag Multiple items in a single bag
r AseAse d
MAS
f
BIGOTS!
