Fremont Plaza Ace Hardware
2060 E.Fremont Street
Stockton,CA 95204
August 1, 2020
TO: ALL MANAGERS, FLOOR SUPERVISORS
As you are all aware, we were cited by San Joaquin County Public Health Department for
several violations in regards to our waste management proceedures. Most of these
deficiencies were a direct result of the Covid 19 pandemic and the resulting strain that it
has placed upon our operation. As an "essential provider" to our community we have
remained open to meet the needs of our clients and customers, often at a reduced staff
level and continually at a volume that far exceeded our expectations.
Moving forward, each of you is mandated to refresh yourselves with the training material
provided in 2017 in regards to Waste Management, copy of which has been attached.
Please pay particular attention to the following areas that were cited:
I_ Return product storage: We need to better monitor the returned product storage
located in the screen room. Again, due to understaffing and overwhelming
volume of business, we had been negligent in maintaining this area and simply
allowed it to overflow. We cannot do that. Each of you and your staff must do an
assessment as to the products being stored versus disposed of. The volume has
become over whelming. Partial products should be considered for disposal,
especially if there are significant numbers already in the Yellow Safety cabinet.
2. Proper Disposal: We can no longer simply take the excess product to the
recycling facility located at the airport as we have done. We MUST keep a chain
of evidence of proper disposal. We have entered into a relationship with
Stericycle who runs the facility at the airport. For a fee, they will document and
accept our waste as a Small Waste Generator. This is MANDATORY. If you
donate any unused products to any of our local Non-Profit clients, you must keep
a record of what you donated and date. We are allowed to continue to support our
various local Non-Profits with used product as long as we document what was
done with the product.
3. Key Fines: We must continue to collect our key fines and maintain them
separately from any other waste, including the pipe threading waste. We are in
the process of collecting enough Key Fines to perform an analysis as required by
San Joaquin County. Final analysis will determine how we can dispose of the
Key Fines moving forward. Continue to transfer the Key Fines into the 5 gallon
bucket clearly marked Key Fines located next to the Yellow Safety cabinet in the
screen room.
4. Pipe Threadings: These have been determined to be acceptable for
waste/recycling and should be disposed of through Stericycle so that we have
