Soil Suitability / Nitrate Loading Study
Cherokee Memorial Park Vineyard Chapel Addition Ŷ Lodi, California
March 5, 2021 Ŷ Terracon Project No. NA207102
Responsive Ŷ Resourceful Ŷ Reliable 15
percolation tests was from a fixed reference point on the PVC casing using a calibrated Solinst
electric water level detector with a depth accuracy of 0.01 feet. All tabulated values on the field
data sheet (Appendix C) are in decimal feet. After water drop was observed, the holes were
checked for refill. The holes were refilled as necessary to maintain approximately 0.5 feet (6
inches) of water above the bottom level of the percolation test holes. The readings were taken
every 30 minutes for a period of four (4) hours.”
1.6.6 Percolation Test Forms and Results
A shallow percolation test is defined by the EHD as being between 36 and 42 inches in depth.
While a deep percolation test is defined by the EHD as being between 42 inches and 25 feet in
depth. The shallow percolation test must demonstrate a satisfactory percolation rate of less than
or equal to 60 minutes per inch drop in water level within the existing septic system disposal field
of a parcel to utilize a standard septic system and 30 minutes per inch or less for septic pits.
Details of the percolation tests are summarized in the table below.
Table 8.
Summary of Percolation Test.
Test No.
Date Tested
Percolation Test
Depth (feet)
Percolation Rate
(min/in)
Test Duration
(hours)
Comments
(see note)
P1
11/17/2014 3.05 15.63 4
Satisfactory
Percolation Rate
P2
11/17/2014 3.07 20.83 4
Satisfactory
Percolation Rate
Note: A satisfactory percolation rate is 60 minutes per inch or less for shallow leach lines and 30 minutes per inch or less for septic
pits per San Joaquin County Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards (EHD 42-014), January 2017.
Based on the percolation tests results, the two shallow borings at approximately 3 feet bgs
achieved a passing percolation rate of 60 minutes per inch or less for standard leach lines.
1.6.7 Discussion of Percolation Test Results
Based on the percolation tests results, Boring P1 and P2 achieved satisfactory percolation rates
of 15.63 and 20.83 minutes per inch, respectively, suitable for standard leach fields. Table 1.10.2
of the OWTS manual indicates a minimum 20-foot soil depth is needed from the bottom of the
leachfield to groundwater.
1.6.8 Discussion of Septic System Sizing
In general, septic system construction should follow the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater
Disposal Standards (OWTS) where applicable.
