Soil Suitability / Nitrate Loading Study
Cherokee Memorial Park Vineyard Chapel Addition Ŷ Lodi, California
March 5, 2021 Ŷ Terracon Project No. NA207102
Responsive Ŷ Resourceful Ŷ Reliable 14
1.5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology
The soils encountered in our 2014 percolation test borings and soil profile consisted primarily of
silty sands. Generally speaking, coarse-grained soil has a greater potential for percolation than
fine-grained or cemented soil.
Terracon searched the DWR online Well Completion Records for additional information regarding
soil lithology near the site. A well completion report was available for the existing domestic well
located northwest of the Vineyard Chapel (historical site address 14165 N. Beckman Road). Soils
were reported as clay from 0 to 10 feet bgs, sand from 10 to 30 feet bgs, sandstone from 30 to
45 feet bgs, clay from 45 to 52 feet bgs, and sandstone, sticky clay, and/or sand to 350 feet bgs.
1.6 Percolation Test Information
1.6.1 Percolation Test Locations
Refer to Section 1.5.1 and Appendix A, Exhibit 2.
1.6.2 Number of Percolation Tests
Two percolation tests (P1 and P2) were performed as a part of the 2015 SSS (Section 1.1).
1.6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
The percolation test borings (P1 and P2) were excavated on November 16, 2014. Approximately
two inches of "pea gravel" was placed in the bottom of the open borings. A 2.0-inch diameter
PVC pipe with perforations towards the bottom was installed on top of the gravel and the annular
space was backfilled with “pea gravel”. Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred the
same day approximately 24 hours prior to the day of testing. The depth of water used to pre-soak
the shallow borings was approximately 1.0 foot above the top of the gravel.
1.6.4 Condition of Borings after Presaturation
Borings P1 and P2 were dry and intact after the 24-hour pre-soak period.
1.6.5 Percolation Test Procedure
The 2015 SSS report stated the following:
“Percolation tests were conducted for the two borings on November 17, 2014 in accordance with
the requirements of the San Joaquin County EHD. Each percolation test had a duration of four
hours. The last half an hour of the test was observed by Michael Escotto, Registered
Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), EHD.
