Identified Contamination Source
A natural gas separator facility is
located on the east side of the Site.
Two injection wells and an
observation well are present. Six
additional gas wells were identified
within one-quarter mile of the Site.
(Current and past on- and off-site)
A domestic well and two irrigation
wells are located on the Site.
(Current on-site)
A septic system connected to the
old house is located on the Site.
(Current on-site)
7 The John Faria Dairy, located on
the Site at 8450 East Jahant Road,
was included on the Hazardous
Materials, Hazardous Waste
Generators, and Aboveground
Storage Tanks lists. An
Aboveground Petroleum Storage
Program Survey Form from 2009
listed 200 gallons of diesel and 200
gallons of gasoline stored on the
Site. A photograph shows two
aboveground tanks, labeled red
diesel and white diesel. A Small
Quantity Hazardous Waste
Generator permit from 2014 was
also on file. (Past on-site)
8. An adjacent property to the north
appears to be a poultry farm.
(Current off-site)
Evaluation
Hazardous materials may be
associated with the operation of the
natural gas wells and the separator
facility. Regulatory oversight for
these activities is provided by the
California Geologic Energy
Management Division.
The wells appear to be in use.
The old house and septic system
are planned for demolition; the
system should be destroyed under
permit from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department.
It appears that fuels and hazardous
materials were handled on the Site
in the past, and some chemicals
may still be used on the Site. While
it is possible that residual chemicals
may remain in on-site soils, no
evidence of impacts to the Site was
identified.
Facilities with enclosed livestock
have been found to contribute to
nitrate contamination in soil and
ground water. Based on the map of
nitrate detections reviewed, ground-
water nitrate levels do not appear to
exceed the MCL within one mile of
the Site.
LOGE 20-61 11
