Soil Remediation Plan
Thornton, California
July 22, 1992
Page 3
PROPOSED WORK
Excavation
Suspected hydrocarbon impacted soils will be excavated by a licensed California contractor,
employing a backhoe tractor to perform the excavation. RESNA Industries, California
Contractor No. 629796 will act as primary contractor.
Excavated soils will be field screened by employing a photo ionization detection (PID) meter,
calibrated to an isobutylene standard. Clean soils will be stockpiled separately from the
impacted soils based upon field observations, i.e., odor, discoloration, PID readings.
Hydrocarbon impacted soils will be covered and underlain by 6 mil plastic sheeting pending
results of laboratory analysis for the determination of the appropriate remediation/disposal
method.
Confirmation Sampling
Upon the removal of the contaminated soil, five confirmation soil samples will be collected, one
from the excavation floor, and four from the sidewalls at appropriate depths to verify source
removal. Samples will be analyzed by a state certified RESNA Environmental Laboratory for
BTEX and TPHG utilizing EPA Methods 8020 and Modified 8015, respectively.
Backfilling
Subsequent to the collection of confirmation soil samples, the excavation will be backfilled with
the clean excavated soils, engineered sand, and/or pea gravel under the requirements set forth
by San Joaquin County.
GPLRC792.TJL
