(WaterWork) is involved in a subsurface
investigation of a former underground gasoline storage tank at
25056 Thornton Road in Thornton, California.
Three groundwater monitoring wells have been installed at the site
to monitor groundwater quality beneath the site. Very low levels
of gasoline hydrocarbons associated with the former underground
fuel storage tank were detected in the uppermost waterbearing zone
beneath the site. Due to the presence of a water supply well near
the project site the San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS) has requested the
installation of additional wells to further define the extent of
groundwater contamination.
The ideal location of one of the proposed groundwater monitoring
wells lies within the boundaries of the property on the southwest
corner of Thornton Road and Mokelumne Avenue (Figure 1), which is
owned by your organization. The placement of the well on your
property would be of great assistance to the investigation and
would consequently benefit the community of Thornton with little to
no inconvenience to your organization.
The monitoring well would be 2 inches in diameter, installed in
accordance with local and state regulations to a depth of
approximately 30 feet below grade. The well would be completed
approximately 2-3 feet above ground with a locking cap and 6-inch
diameter well monument so as not to be obscured by the natural
grass and brush present on the now vacant lot. The well can also
be completed at grade (flush with ground surface) so as not to
interfere with vehicle movement if it would be more convenient to
CPL0809A.WP
1710 MAIN STREET • ESCALON, CA 95320 • (209) 838-3507
2350-A WALSH AVENUE • SANTA CLARA, CA 95051 • (408) 496-1249
