• Standard Operating Procedures
• Signaling an emergency: the alarm used, how to summon hell;, what information
to give and who to give it to.
• Evacuation routes and refuges,
• The person or station to report to when an alarm sounds.
Onsite emergency personnel, who have been assigned emergency roles in addition to their
ordinary duties have:been specifically designated. Each of them must have a thorough
understanding of emergency response.
Training will be directly related to specific roles and include the following subjects:
* F;mergency chain-of-command
. Communication methods and signals
• How to call for help
• Emergency equipment and its use (including personal protective equipment)«
Emergency evacuation (including wearing of protective equipment during the
evacuation process)
• Removing injured personnel
• Offsite support and how to use it.
« Designated personnel must also obtain certification in first ail and CFR
« Recognizing and treating chemical and physical injuries
• Recognizing and treating heat and cold stress
Offsite emergency personnel such as local firefighters and ambulance crews often are
first responders and run a risk of acute hazard exposure equal to that of any onsite worker.
They will therefore be informed of ways to recognize and deal effectively with onsite
hazards. That is necessary because lack of information may inadvertently worsen an
emergency by improper actions (e.g., spraying water on a water reactive chemical and
causing an explosion), and because inadequate knowledge of the onsite emergency chain-
of-command may cause confusion and delays.
Site management will take appropriate action to avoid any problems and will provide off-
site emergency personnel with:
• Site-specific hazards
• Appropriate response techniques
• Our emergency procedures
• Decontamination procedures.
