• Prevent the exposure of unauthorized, unprotected people and others to onsite <br /> hazards <br /> • Avoid the increased hazards from vandals or persons improperly seeking to take <br /> advantage of the situation. <br /> • Prevent theft <br /> • Avoid interference with safe working procedures. <br /> The following measures will be taken to maintain security during working hours; <br /> • Maintain security in the emergency area and at all Access Control Points . <br /> Establish an identification system to identify authorized persons and limitations to <br /> their approved activities <br /> • Assign responsibility for enforcing; authority for entry and exit requirements <br /> • Erect a fence or other physical barrier around the area. <br /> • If the area is not fenced, post signs around the perimeter and use guards to patrol <br /> the perimeter. Guards must be fully apprised of the hazards involved and trained <br /> in emergency services. <br /> • Have the Emergency Response Coordinator approve all visitors. Make sure they <br /> have a valid purpose for entering the premises. Have trained personnel accompany <br /> visitors at all times and provide them with the appropriate protective equipment. <br /> The following measures will be taken to maintain security during off-duty hours; <br /> • If possible, assign trained, in-house technicians for area surveillance. They will be <br /> familiar with the area,the nature of the work, the area's hazards, and required <br /> protective measures, If not possible, do the next best things(as stated below) <br /> • Use security guards to patrol the boundary when it is not possible to implement <br /> the area surveillance mentioned above. Such personnel may be less expensive than <br /> trained technicians, but will be more difficult to train in safety procedurs and will <br /> be less confident in reacting;to problems around hazardous substances. . Enlist <br /> public enforcement agencies, such as the local police department, if the area <br /> presents a significant risk to local health and safety. a Secure all equipment. <br /> Recordkeeping <br /> Whenever an emergency action activity has occurred, our Emergency Response <br /> Coordinator will initiate an investigation and documentation of the incident. That is <br /> important in all cases, but especially so when the incident has resulted in personal injury, <br /> onsite property damage, or damage to the surrounding environment. Documentation will <br /> be used to learn from experience,to help avert recurrences, as evidence in future legal <br /> actions, for assessment of liability by insurance companies, and for review by <br /> government agencies when appropriate.
